We caught up with Shay Jordan at the recent Adult Entertainment Expo in Las Vegas for a chat about art, porn, and the upcoming Pirates 2
Eros Zine: I understand that you grew up in San Diego?
Shay Jordan: Well, I always say that. My cousins' Dad was in the navy, and I lived with my cousins so I moved around a lot.
Eros Zine: What was that like?
Shay Jordan: It was horrible when I was a kid, because I had to go to different schools and make new friends and be left out all the time. But eventually, as I became a teen, we moved to San Diego, and I stayed there for about ten years. Then, I ended up going to Hawaii and the Philippines on vacations, so San Diego really became my home.
I was actually born in the Philippines; I came to the United States later.
Eros Zine: How did you get started with Digital Playground?
Shay Jordan: I was with an agency before; I was actually doing
girl-girl for a little bit, for about three months. I just decided
if I could do boy-girl and get a contract, then why not -- so I decided
to do boy girl for a little bit, and see if I could get a contract,
and luckily enough my first company that I worked with was Digital
Playground, and they wanted me as a contract star. So said, hell yeah!
Eros Zine: What made you want to be a contract star with DP?
Shay Jordan: I promised myself that if I did boys, it would be only with a contract. Working with guys is very much easier than doing it solo; it's easier to work with guys because it's easier to make the scene look hot and sexy. When you do a girl-girl you can't just be doing oral, that gets boring, you can't just be doing toys, that gets boring, and not a lot of people like girl-girl. I like doing girl-girl in my personal life; i love girls. I love having sex with girls more than guys, but when it comes to work, I'm a better performer with guys. They're more rough, they're dominant; you know, it's just easier for me.
Eros Zine: Did you consider yourself bi before you started doing porn?
Shay Jordan: I had a girlfriend before I started performing -- so, yeah, definitely!
Eros Zine: Which male performers do you like working with the most?
Shay Jordan: Scott Nails. I like him a lot and we have great chemistry; when we do a scene we know what we're doing, we know what looks good, and so I end up climaxing like five or six times because we just know how to do it to each other -- I don't know. That's what makes it easier. And then the scene ends up looking really hot.
Eros Zine: How about directors?
Shay Jordan: I love Robby D. He's just very easy going; he cares about how you feel, he's very nice, he doesn't make you do things that you can't or don't want to do, he makes you feel really comfortable. He's one of the reasons I decided to go with Digital Playground. During my scenes he'll tell me exactly what to do or what to say, and it'll just make it that much better.
Eros Zine: Do you get to travel a lot?
Shay Jordan: Lately we've only been doing stuff in LA, because I haven't been in any features. But when we do the big movies [laughs] -- we all know what they are -- then I'll be out of town and traveling and going to other places.
Eros Zine: So you'll be in Pirates 2?
Shay Jordan: Of course. Oh my gosh, I mean, I figured I would, but I didn't know for sure until now. I'm stoked. I'm so excited. I wish I was in the first one!
Eros Zine: Have you acted before?
Shay Jordan: Not really. When I was younger, my uncle put me through singing, dancing and acting school, so I have a little experience -- but it was only for the summer. This is very new for me.
Eros Zine: Do you want to be a pirate, or a tavern girl?
Shay Jordan: I want to be a bad pirate girl. I want to be with the bad pirate guys, but be one of the only girls in the group. I want to say Arrrr!
Eros Zine: Samantha Lewis was saying that she's sort of a surrogate mother to the DP contract girls...
Shay Jordan: Yes! That was another reason why I chose Digital Playground, because the main boss was a girl, and she is just such a loving mother. I never really had a mom, so being around her is just so great. I can tell her how I feel; I can tell her what my problems are. You can't always do that with guys.
Eros Zine: When you watch porn, do you feel like you react to it differently than a male viewer does?
Shay Jordan: I do have a different perspective when I watch porn. Now, I don't know if it's because I'm with DP, but now I'm more into the fashion, the style; I like my porn sexy and stylish but still rough. I still want it to be rough, I want it to be PORN, but I like good editing, good setups, good costumes. I just like porn that's had some work put into it, like someone actually tried, instead of just grabbed the camera and said let's shoot some porn.
