As you may or may not know, those punk rock kids make a lot of porn nowadays. Back when Eon McKai directed his groundbreaking Art School Sluts, the idea that art school actually sported any sluts was a pretty radical one. Nowadays, like 24 months and numerous Eon McKai joints later, everyone knows that girls with piercings and tats, as a rule, are hot, hot, hot! I recently pawed through the growing stack of alt porn titles in my office -- and hereby share my weird observations with you.
Re-Penetrator itself is not a feature but a 12-minute short, but the DVD release from BurningAngel comes with a 22-minute "director's cut." Bonus features include three shorts from the BurningAngel video vault: "School Bus Bitches," "Caulk & Bawls" and "The Jizzperiment." Don't expect gore there, but hey! There's enough of it in Re-Penetrator itself. There's also a twofer of commentary by Joanna Angel and Tommy Pistol (who plays Dr. Breast) on the main short. The porn is tasty stuff, and the gore-splat is, you know, gore-splat. Speaking of that filthiest of all Joannas, Joanna's Angels: Alt Throttle is the follow-up to Angel's first VCA feature, and every bit as hot as the first one. This time, Charlotte Stokely kidnaps the president's daughter (Dana DeArmond), holding her for ransom until everything "alt" is outlawed. Saucy Joanna's Angels must defeat the slutty supervillain or risk the burning of all Clash albums. Featuring a full two hours and forty minutes of porn, Alt Throttle starts out with interracial presidential double penetration, and gets wilder from there. Angel, Sabrina Sparx, and Kylee Kross return to play the Angels, and Pinky Lee, Pixie Pearl, DeArmond and Stokely are all tasty as can be. Legendary Mr. Marcus does the presidential tag-team honors, and James Deen and Tommy Pistol provide additional erectile tissue. Extras include behind-the-scenes footage and audio commentary. Alt Throttle is a lot of filthy fun. Thundering on the alt-porn scene this year came Eon McKai's Neu Wave Hookers, a re-imagining of the '80s Dark Brothers feature New Wave Hookers. McKai's version feels like it's been promoted at the beginning of every VCA movie since the dawn of time; I was beginning to get sick of seeing trailers for it.
Essentially, the idea is this: Some hot chicks find an old VHS copy of the original New Wave Hookers at a garage sale, and buy the VCR to go with it (never having seen one before). They watch the feature and decide to investigate how the movie was made, while fading in and out of what I think are supposed to be dream sequences in which they fuck a lot. The sex scenes are hot -- how could they not be, with stars like Riley Mason, Angel, Justine Joli, Tiger, Nyomi Zen, Sierra Sinn, and DeArmond? But this is not your average porn -- in several scenes, there is a lot of weird reluctance on the part of the female characters. It's transgressive, edgy, and challenging, but depending on your particular orientation toward porn, could turn you the hell off. Nonetheless, it's an interesting experiment and important in the history of erotic cinema. This three-disk set comes with an excised version of the original New Wave Hookers (omitting the Traci Lords scenes, which VCA has destroyed for legal reasons). Watched separately from the remake, New Wave Hookers is a groundbreaking and extraordinarily bizarre piece of porn history that everyone should subject themselves to, preferably while drunk with a bunch of friends. A mild suggestion: you will be much more entertained by the remake if you watch the original first. In case you missed it, Kill Girl Kill 3 was McKai's project immediately before Neu Wave Hookers. The first two volumes in this series were outstanding, and volume 3 continues the quality. In many ways this is alt porn in its purest form -- story-free scenes that are nonetheless evocative for their atmosphere, settings and costumes, featuring punked-up chippies with piercings and tattoos, engaged in hardcore action. If what you're looking for are sexy punkettes, Kill Girl Kill 3 delivers it in spades. With McKai regulars Angel, Katrina Kraven, Nyomi Zen, Serena Sinn, and Tiger appearing with James Deen, Rob Rotten and Kurt Lockwood, it's a return to the fruitful and groundbreaking realm of the first two volumes. Extras include behind-the-scenes footage, audio commentary and a bonus scene. You might well be expecting some hardcore otaku manku with Crush Video's Alt Asia. The girls in Alt Asia are, indeed, somewhat alternative, with a few tattoos, belly rings, phosphorescent eye shadow and alt-fashion outfits. Even if they're not the punkest girls on the block, there's not much arguing that they're gorgeous. They're also, as the title suggests, Asian, so don't expect a lot of perky dialogue, though there is one hottie who loves to talk dirty (Gianna Lynn). But there's something lusciously beautiful about the way Crush Video lights its productions, giving them a sensuous quality, and Alt Asia is no different. The downright breathtaking actresses begin each scene by showing off and masturbating, then progress to sucking and fucking with exceedingly non-alt male actors. The sex is good, and again, the production quality is higher than a typical porn release. The stars featured are Loni, Gianna, Luci Thai, Kea Kulani, and Nyomi, with bonus footage featuring extra-hot Arcadia. Additional extra features include a bloopers reel and cumshot recap.
Gallant's Ultra Vixens NYC is, if anything, even more irreverent and edgy than Killing Courtney Luv; it asks the important question "Have these sluts made a blood pact with Satan?" Along the way it manages to ridicule hippies, open mike nights, stand-up comedy, porn, the Manhattan underground scene, and just about everything else. With Angel Baby, Heather Pink, Tatiana Stone, Jennifer Steele, Montana Gunn and Nikki Blaze, it's got another crew of talent mostly unknown to me. Still, I wouldn't call these chicks "fresh," since it feels like they'd throw a drink in my face and maybe kick me in the balls if I did. Set in the underground bars, strip clubs and dark alleys of Manhattan, Ultra Vixens concerns a publicity firm that's in reality a witch's coven, sacrificing a virgin each year to maintain their stranglehold on the media. In addition to the frequent scenes of hardcore sex (including, again, plenty of anal -- every scene, if I counted right), Ultra Vixens even livens things up with a little fire-eating and other improbable stunts. It's a vibrant piece of underground filth, vibrant manic with perverse energy and dissident vision. Whether you seek out alt porn for its boundary-pushing artistry, or you just like looking at punk chicks, you can rest assured that the genre is going strong. I'm betting we'll have hot porn to enjoy from McKai, Angel, Gallant and their fellows for a long time to come.
